At CARE Humane Society, our mission is to advance the humane treatment and responsible ownership of companion animals by focusing on community education, expert sheltering, and the alleviation of animal suffering. Our Story
Founded in 1974 by a dedicated group of volunteers, our organization began as a compassionate response to the growing number of stray animals in our community. Over the last five decades, we have evolved from a small foster-based group into a vital community resource, supported by local government and generous citizens who share our commitment to companion animals.
How We Care
We are an open-admissions and low-kill shelter located on Ware Drive in Auburn, providing a safe haven for dogs and cats while they wait for their forever families. Our work is powered by a robust foster program and a team of devoted volunteers, allowing us to provide medical care, behavioral support, and socialization for nearly 3,000 homeless animals each year. We also provide essential community programs, including TNR for community cats and intake diversion services, to help keep pets and families together.
