Heart of the Catskills Humane Society is dedicated to the mission of connecting every adoptable pet to a loving home. We believe in providing quality care for those who cannot speak for themselves while building a community committed to the lifetime wellbeing of our animal companions.
Our journey began in 1968 in Delhi, New York, when a group of concerned neighbors came together to rescue a terrier and her puppies hiding under an old barn. With the help of the Delaware County Historical Association and dedicated local students, we transformed from a small group of volunteers into the nationally recognized organization we are today. For decades, we have remained committed to being the 'little shelter with the big heart' for our local community.
We provide a supportive environment for our animals, utilizing both our physical shelter facilities and a dedicated foster network to ensure every pet receives individual attention. From doggy playgroups and nature trail walks to our specialized cat socialization efforts, we focus on helping pets project their true personalities. Whether it is through our formal foster program or onsite enrichment, our goal is to help our animals blossom until they find their forever families.
We take great pride in our thoughtful matching process, ensuring that every pet is placed in a home where they can thrive. Our staff is here to help you find a companion that fits your lifestyle, whether you are looking for an active dog, a shy 'shrinking violet' cat, or even a working barn cat. Adopting is a joyful partnership, and we are honored to help you start your journey together.
We invite you to visit our adoption centers in Delhi or Kingston to meet your next companion in person. You can view our currently available pets on Petfinder or contact us to learn more about our adoption process. Come see why we believe that every animal deserves a second chance at happiness.
