The Humane Society for Boone County is dedicated to rescuing, protecting, and advocating for animals as a pathway to loving, forever homes. Our vision is a community where every animal is free from pain and suffering, with a safe place to call their own.
We are a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Boone County, Indiana, operated almost entirely by a passionate team of volunteers. While we are a managed-admission shelter, our community focus allows us to provide quality, compassionate care to animals in need while promoting responsible pet ownership through education and resources.
Our operations rely on a dedicated network of donors, foster families, and volunteers who create a calm and nurturing environment for our animals. By utilizing a managed-admission model, we ensure that we can provide the best possible support for every cat and dog that comes through our doors. This thoughtful approach helps us maintain a remarkable 97.04% live release rate.
Adoption is a life-changing connection, and we are committed to making sure every match is the right one. Because many of our animals are cared for in foster homes, we operate by appointment only to ensure that both you and your potential new companion have the time and attention needed for a successful introduction. We believe that taking the time to meet our animals is the best way to start your journey together.
Whether you are looking to welcome a new best friend into your home or want to support our work, there are many ways to get involved. We invite you to view our adoptable animals online or fill out a Meet & Greet request form to start your adoption journey. Thank you for helping us give our animals the second chance they deserve.
