At Living Free Animal Sanctuary, we believe that compassion has the power to transform lives. Our mission is to provide refuge, safety, and a second chance to those who need it most.
Founded in 1980 by Emily Jo Beard, our sanctuary was built on a simple promise: to protect the innocent and provide a place of renewal. For over 45 years, we have grown from a modest beginning into a 155-acre sanctuary that honors a long history of refuge, dating back centuries to the original inhabitants of these mountains.
We are a proud no-kill sanctuary dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats facing euthanasia in overcrowded municipal shelters. Our facilities are designed to balance structure with comfort, offering quarantine areas for new arrivals, cozy indoor bedrooms, and sprawling outdoor yards where animals can decompress and thrive. Whether they are with us for a short time or reside here permanently, every animal is treated with deep respect and provided with the professional care they deserve.
Every photo and every story we share tells of the incredible bonds possible between people and their animal companions. We understand that finding the right match is a joyful milestone, and we are here to help you discover the perfect new member of your family. Our team is committed to transparency and patience, ensuring that you and your potential companion are supported every step of the way.
We invite you to experience our mission firsthand by booking a tour at our beautiful location in Mountain Center. Please visit our website to explore our adoptable cats and dogs, or contact our front desk to schedule an appointment. We look forward to helping you find your next best friend.
