At the San Antonio Humane Society, our mission is to protect and improve the lives of dogs and cats by providing shelter, care, and community education. We believe that people and pets are just better together, and we are dedicated to helping every animal find their permanent, loving home.
Since our founding in 1952, we have proudly served Bexar County and the surrounding areas as a local, independent nonprofit organization. We are not affiliated with national groups like the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States, meaning that your support goes directly toward helping the animals right here in our community.
As a no-kill organization, we save both healthy and treatable dogs and cats, with euthanasia reserved only for animals that are medically unhealthy and untreatable. Every pet in our care stays with us until they find a loving home or necessary placement, ensuring they receive the medical treatment, rehabilitation, and compassion they deserve.
We believe that successful adoptions are built on thoughtful connections, which is why we invite all family members to meet their potential new companion in person. Our adoption process is designed to ensure a great fit for both you and your new pet, allowing you to get to know one another in a warm, welcoming environment.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? Visit us at 4804 Fredericksburg Rd to explore our adoptable pets, or visit our website to learn more about our adoption process and upcoming community events. We look forward to helping you make a difference in a pet’s life.
