The NWT SPCA is dedicated to advancing the well-being of companion animals in our region through shelter, community education, and progressive care. We believe in building a compassionate world where every animal is valued, respected, and treated with kindness.
Established as a non-profit in 1988, we spent our early years supporting animal medical needs and coordinating transport for animals in need. In 2012, we proudly opened our own shelter facility in Yellowknife, made possible by the incredible support and passion of our community. Today, we continue to grow and evolve to better serve the needs of northern animals and families.
We operate as a registered, no-kill, open-admission charity that does not receive federal or territorial government funding. Our team follows the Five Freedoms philosophy, ensuring every animal in our care receives proper nutrition, comfort, medical attention, and the freedom to express normal behavior. Whether they are in our shelter facility or thriving in a temporary foster home, our staff and volunteers work one-on-one to rebuild trust and prepare them for their permanent families.
Adopting a pet is a life-changing step, and we are here to support you at every turn. We prioritize thoughtful matching to ensure each animal’s personality, energy level, and needs align perfectly with your home and lifestyle. By working closely with our knowledgeable staff, you can feel confident that you are choosing a companion who will thrive as a beloved member of your family.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our adoptable pets online or visit our facility in Yellowknife to see who is waiting for a forever home. Together, we can provide the love and second chances that our northern animals deserve.
