The Humane Society of Madison County is dedicated to saving lives and providing a compassionate bridge to the future for the animals in our care. We are committed to connecting you with your perfect forever friend.
Founded in 1989, we have spent decades serving the West Jefferson, Ohio area and beyond as a non-profit animal organization. Our work is centered on the belief that every healthy or treatable dog and cat deserves a loving home.
We are proud to operate as a no-kill shelter, which means we evaluate every animal's quality of life individually to reach a live-release rate of 90% or higher. Our facility provides more than just a place to stay; it is a space for care, medical attention, and enrichment. While some of our animals live on-site, others enjoy the comforts of temporary foster homes or our Fresh Start Canine Training Program until they are ready to meet their new families.
We believe in the power of thoughtful, one-on-one connections between pets and people. Because we want to ensure the best possible start for your new partnership, our meet-and-greets are held by appointment. This allows our dedicated team to coordinate with foster families or training facilities so that your chosen pet is ready and waiting to greet you upon your arrival.
Your journey to finding a new companion begins on our website, where you can fill out an application. Once approved, we will contact you to schedule your personalized visit at our West Jefferson facility. We invite you to join our community, whether by adopting, volunteering, or supporting our ongoing life-saving work.
