Our Mission
New Fairfield Sherman Animal Welfare Society, Inc. provides care and compassion for adoptable animals and finds them loving families. We strive to expand our rescue efforts while continuing to positively impact our community and create a more humane world for animals and people.
A History of Compassion
Established in 1977, our organization began as a foster-based initiative dedicated to pet adoption, spay and neuter advocacy, and humane education. After recognizing the critical need to address stray animal populations in the area, we took a monumental step in 1991 by building our dedicated shelter facility. Since then, our unwavering commitment to change and growth has led to a significant decrease in the number of stray animals in New Fairfield and Sherman.
How We Care
Our work is funded entirely by generous contributions from our community, as we receive no funding from any government agency. We operate a small shelter facility that provides a safe haven for over 400 homeless and abandoned animals each year, while also maintaining a robust foster network. Our team is guided by core values of compassion, dedication, integrity, education, and innovation in every aspect of our daily operations.

3/21 - Nearly one-third of the 89 cats removed in New Fairfield hoarding case were euthanized, warrant says
