Our mission is clear: to exceed expectations in the delivery of public service related to animal control and welfare. We understand the pressing issue of pet overpopulation—every time a person is born in the United States, an alarming number of dogs and cats are born as well, surpassing the number of homes available. We strive to combat this by promoting responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering. The Nye County Animal Shelter is dedicated to not only rescuing animals but also educating our community on important animal-related matters. We actively enforce animal welfare laws, focusing on public health and safety, rabies control, and addressing issues of animal cruelty and nuisance complaints. Our animal control services are available seven days a week, ensuring that urgent matters are handled promptly. We understand and cherish the unique bond between pets and their owners, and we work with compassion to facilitate lost and found animal reunions, and to reduce the stress of relinquishment. Adopters are encouraged to visit our shelter between 10 am and 5 pm, Monday through Saturday to meet our adoptable pets and learn more about our programs and services.
