Lionel's Legacy is dedicated to creating a brighter future for senior dogs through advocacy, education, and compassionate rescue. We believe every senior dog deserves to feel like a cherished member of the family, regardless of their age or background.
Our Heartfelt Beginnings
Our journey began in 2011 after we welcomed a 15-year-old pit bull mix named Lionel into our home. Despite his rough start, Lionel’s incredible spirit and zest for life inspired us to champion the needs of homeless senior animals who are often overlooked in shelters due to medical or age-related concerns.
How We Care for Our Seniors
Lionel’s Legacy is a foster-based organization, meaning we do not operate a traditional boarding facility. Instead, our rescued seniors thrive in loving foster homes where they receive necessary food, supplies, and medical care as they wait for their forever families. We also operate an adoption and wellness center by appointment to ensure every dog receives personalized attention.
A Partnership for Life
We believe in thoughtful, intentional matching to ensure every adoption is a match made in heaven. Potential adopters participate in a foster-to-adopt period, allowing space for the dog to settle in and for families to ensure a perfect fit. Our team is committed to providing ongoing support, including medical history transparency and resources for successful transitions.
