Our Mission
For more than 132 years, the Winnipeg Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting all animals from suffering and promoting their welfare and dignity. Our vision is a world where every animal is treated humanely, and we are committed to providing a second chance to those who need it most.
Our History
Founded in 1894 by a group of compassionate citizens, we hold the distinction of being the oldest animal shelter and welfare organization in Manitoba. From our early days of inspecting slaughterhouses to our current home at 45 Hurst Way, we have evolved alongside our community to serve as a vital resource for thousands of animals each year.
How We Care
We believe in a holistic approach to animal welfare, combining a safe, comfortable shelter environment with an extensive foster program. Our foster parents provide essential care to animals recovering from surgery or needing extra time in a home setting, while our on-site clinic and dedicated staff ensure that every animal receives the medical and behavioral support they deserve. Beyond our walls, we provide community programs like our Pet Food Bank and behavior support to help families keep their pets happy and healthy at home.
