The MCHS mission is to end animal homelessness through education, outreach, and adoption, while saving lives and supporting the bond between pets and their families. We believe in being humane together to ensure every animal gets the second chance they deserve.
Since transitioning to a completely independent, 100% privately funded animal welfare organization in 2014, we have remained dedicated to our community. We are not a government agency, but a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies entirely on donations and revenue from our programs to help homeless pets.
We work every day to save lives through rescue, adoption, and affordable care. Beyond our rescue work, we offer Hanna's Clinic for affordable vaccines and surgeries, as well as a pet food pantry to help owners keep their pets in their homes. Our efforts are further supported by our thrift store, Humane Together, which directly funds our life-saving mission.
We are a proud no-kill organization, meaning we impose no time limits on our animals and work tirelessly to help them find their perfect forever homes. We prioritize thoughtful, compassionate matching to ensure the best fit for both the pet and the family, making adoption a truly joyful experience.
Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or support us through a donation, your partnership is vital to our success. We invite you to visit our facility in Rockville, browse our available pets online, or stop by to meet the companion who will change your life. Let's be humane together!
