The Maryland SPCA is dedicated to reducing pet homelessness by providing vital pet retention services, safety net housing, and community engagement that empowers pet families in Baltimore and beyond.

Founded in 1869, our organization was built on the simple, enduring notion that every animal deserves to be treated with kindness and care. We are driven by the belief that supporting our community means acting with compassion, responsiveness, and creativity to keep pets and their people together.
How We Care
We operate as a hub of support, utilizing a combination of our main campus on Falls Road and a dedicated network of foster families to ensure every animal is well-tended to in our care. We prioritize the health and well-being of every cat and dog, ensuring that all healthy and treatable pets are saved through medical and behavior interventions, with no time limit on their stay.

For three straight weeks, as reported, family members displaced by a 5-alarm, fatal fire in Belmont that also resulted in several injuries, have been back at the building, now encased by a temporary wooden barricade, keeping vigil and searching the broken windows for any glimpse of the estimated seven cats and other animals left behind after the blaze. Residents believe they may still be inside the hollowed-out structure.
