Our History and Heart

For over 80 years, what began in 1941 as a small shelter in a 3-car garage has grown into a vital resource for Northwest Indiana. Today, we manage a state-of-the-art shelter in Munster, the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic, and a dedicated Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Valparaiso, all united by one steadfast mission.

Our Care Model

We operate as a progressive, managed-admission organization, ensuring every animal receives the highest standard of care based on the Five Freedoms. By focusing on capacity for care, we provide essential enrichment, nourishment, and medical support for homeless cats and dogs. Our expansive foster network and collaborations with local agencies allow us to help thousands of animals find safety and healing every year.
