Our Mission
The Louisiana SPCA is dedicated to promoting, protecting, and advancing the well-being of Louisiana’s companion animals. We exist to foster the human-animal bond and provide a path toward a better life for every pet in our community.
A Legacy of Care
Chartered in 1888, we have spent more than 130 years serving the Greater New Orleans community and beyond. From our early days advocating for working animals to our pivotal role leading the largest animal rescue operation in U.S. history after Hurricane Katrina, we have remained a steadfast voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
How We Help
As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we operate as a comprehensive animal welfare organization that relies on local support rather than national affiliation. Our open-admission shelter provides a safe, welcoming environment for thousands of animals each year, supported by our dedicated team of staff and volunteers. We go beyond sheltering by offering veterinary services through our Community Clinic, Humane Law & Rescue, and specialized training programs to keep families and pets together.
