Our Mission
The Capital Area Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education, and example. We envision a community that deeply values the human-animal bond and where all pets are healthy and safe.
Our History
Our journey began in 1935 when dedicated community members started caring for homeless animals in their own homes. Since becoming the Capital Area Humane Society in 1987, we have grown into an independent, non-profit organization serving Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton Counties with a commitment to providing a better life for every animal in our care.
How We Care
We are a proud, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that receives no tax funding, relying entirely on the support of our community. Our shelter serves as a safe haven for hundreds of animals, where they receive professional care and love from our dedicated staff and volunteers while they wait for their forever homes. We do not place time limits on the animals in our care, ensuring each one has the time and resources they need to thrive.
