Our Legacy of Compassion
Founded in 1899 by four visionary women, we have spent more than 125 years at the intersection of animal welfare and social well-being. What began as a simple meeting to address the needs of Chicago’s forgotten animals has blossomed into an entire community committed to caring for, protecting, and advocating for pets in need.
An Open Door to Care
As a private, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we operate an open-admission shelter that provides care to any animal in need, regardless of behavior or medical history. Our comprehensive approach includes low-cost veterinary services, behavioral support, and a robust foster network that allows pets to flourish in home environments while preparing for their forever families.
