The Humane Society of Branch County is dedicated to providing humane care and treatment for animals needing protection, while advocating for their welfare through education and responsible population control.

Our History

Organized in 1973 by Debbie Brooks and incorporated in 1974, our organization has long served as a vital community resource. Since opening our current facility in 1979 on land donated by Oral and Ida Mae Stetler, we have remained committed to being a steadfast no-kill sanctuary for animals in need.

How We Operate

We are a non-profit organization that operates entirely through the generosity of our supporters, relying on donations, bequests, and grants rather than city or county funding. Our shelter is maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers who provide essential daily care, interaction, and love to our residents. We are currently working toward expanding our facility to ensure we can provide an even better environment for the pets in our care.
