Our Mission
The Watauga Humane Society promotes animal welfare by providing essential services to improve the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. We are dedicated to our vision of a community where no pets are homeless and healthy, adoptable animals find the loving families they deserve.
A Legacy of Care
Since our founding on December 12, 1969, we have been working to house, care for, and find homes for stray, abandoned, and unwanted animals. Over the last five decades, we have grown alongside Watauga County, including our 2011 transition into a modern facility designed to maximize our life-saving initiatives and expand our capacity to help animals in need.
How We Help
We provide a safe, nurturing environment for homeless animals while they await their forever families, including those seized by Animal Control. Our care model relies on daily enrichment, medical services, and a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. We are proud to maintain a no-kill status, with our collective efforts helping to keep the euthanasia rate for healthy and adoptable animals below 5%.
