Our Mission
Our mission is to provide food, shelter, socialization, and humane care for abandoned and relinquished animals until each one finds a permanent, loving home. We believe that every animal deserves a second chance and a safe place to wait for their new family.
Our Story
Formed in the late 1970s by a dedicated group of citizens, the Manistee County Humane Society has always been committed to improving the lives of homeless animals. In April 2005, our dream became a reality with the opening of the Homeward Bound Animal Shelter, and we have since helped thousands of animals transition into wonderful new homes.
How We Care
Homeward Bound is a 501(c) nonprofit, no-kill shelter that operates entirely on donations, memberships, and grants. Our facility provides care 365 days a year for 75-130 animals, ensuring that every resident receives necessary vaccinations, de-worming, and spay or neuter services before they are ready for adoption. Under the guidance of our staff and a dedicated Board of Directors, we strive to maintain the highest standards of animal welfare.
