Welcome to the City of Elko Animal Shelter, where we are dedicated to the welfare and responsible placement of animals in our community. Our mission revolves around ensuring that every pet receives the love and care they deserve, while also promoting responsible pet ownership among our adopters. To facilitate responsible pet ownership, we require all dogs residing in the City of Elko and Elko County to be licensed annually. Licenses for dogs living within Elko City limits can be purchased directly at our shelter during regular business hours, while those in the county can obtain licenses from the County Clerk's office located at the Elko County Court House. Remember that licensing must be completed between mid-December and February 28th to avoid late fees, and a current Rabies Vaccination Certificate is necessary for the licensing process. At the City of Elko Animal Shelter, we believe in the importance of commitment when it comes to animal adoption. Prospective adopters must consider the responsibility and time involved in welcoming a new furry family member into their home. Most of our animals come to us with little training, and we seek dedicated individuals who are willing to nurture and train them to become well-behaved companions. Our adoption fees are designed to support our shelter's mission: the fee for a dog or puppy is $85.00, while cat or kitten adoptions are available for $65.00. These fees include spaying/neutering, rabies vaccinations, and microchipping, ensuring your new pet receives essential medical care. Additionally, we prioritize the health of our animals. All dogs under the age of 2 receive vital vaccinations, including Parvo/Distemper and Bordetella, while all cats gain protection from feline distemper and respiratory issues through appropriate vaccinations.
