Wiregrass Humane Society
Our Mission
The Wiregrass Humane Society is a non-profit public service organization dedicated to relieving animal suffering and finding loving forever homes for our residents. We are committed to providing a safe haven and high-quality care for every animal that comes through our doors.
A Legacy of Compassion
Our organization has served the community for decades, seeing a significant resurgence in the early 1990s. Thanks to the generosity of the citizens of the Wiregrass and a partnership with the City of Dothan, we moved into our current facility in 2000, leaving behind the mobile housing of our earlier years.
How We Care
As a private, non-profit shelter, we rely entirely on the support of kind donors within our community, as we receive no federal, state, or local funding. While our facility is maintained by shelter employees, the daily work of the society is powered by a dedicated team of volunteers. We take pride in ensuring every animal receives vaccinations, microchipping, and necessary medical care, including spaying or neutering, before finding their new family.
Your Partner in Adoption
We believe that adopting a pet is a meaningful, lifelong commitment, and we are here to help you find the perfect match for your household. Our thorough application process, including meet-and-greets for current dogs, ensures that every transition is successful, safe, and joyful for both you and your new companion.
