Greater Huntsville Humane Society
Our Mission
The Greater Huntsville Humane Society is dedicated to the humane treatment and welfare of all animals through rescue, training, adoption, education, and advocacy. We are proud to be a no-kill shelter providing a safe, welcoming environment for animals in need.
Our History and Community
Since our establishment in 1969, we have spent over 55 years rescuing North Alabama’s homeless animals and supporting our local community. We believe in compassion and responsibility for both animals and people, ensuring that every pet receives the stellar care and safe refuge they deserve.
How We Care
We operate as a brick-and-mortar shelter while utilizing a network of dedicated volunteers and foster families to provide temporary homes for animals in need. Our initiatives, such as King’s Community Kitchen and our Pet Wellness Clinics, extend our support beyond our walls to keep families and their pets together whenever possible.
Your Perfect Match
Finding a FURever home is the heart of what we do, and we strive to make your adoption experience joyful and seamless. By focusing on thoughtful matching, we help you find the pet that perfectly complements your life and brings lasting happiness to your home.
Join Our Mission
Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply learn more, we invite you to be part of our community. Please visit our website to view our available animals, explore our programs, or visit us at our Johnson Road shelter to meet your new best friend.

10/20 - 10/10 would eat here again 🤣 This lil’ lady, Azalia, stopped by the shelter for intake before going straight into foster with a partnered vet. As many Sphynx cats do, Azalia has some medical attention needs that we are currently monitoring, including a horrible mouth infection 🥺 As for the video…we just had to share her snack time!

Thank you to @bestfriendsanimalsociety for coordinating the transport for our guests, 13 amazing dogs, from Mobile to Ohio, with GHHS being the overnight hub.
