At the Monroe County Animal Shelter, our primary goal is to find loving, permanent homes for as many abandoned animals as possible. We are dedicated to serving our community by providing a safe transition for pets in need as they await their new families.
Established by the City Council in 1998, our department was created to coordinate animal welfare efforts within our region. We work closely with the county and local health officials to address the needs of stray and homeless animals, ensuring a healthier and more compassionate community for everyone.
Our shelter, located just west of downtown Monroeville, serves as a hub of care and recovery for animals from across Monroe County. Every animal in our care receives worming, necessary vaccinations, and a complimentary vet check-up at one of our partner clinics to ensure they are healthy and ready for their next chapter.
We believe that every adoption is the beginning of a beautiful, joyful partnership. To ensure the best match, we require all potential adopters to complete an application, and in accordance with state law, all our adopted animals are spayed or neutered to support long-term health and wellness. Our staff is here to help you navigate the process and answer any questions you may have about our current residents.
Whether you are looking to adopt or simply want to learn more about how you can support our mission, we welcome visitors to our facility. Please contact us at 251-575-3427 or stop by during our regular hours to meet the wonderful animals currently waiting to meet you. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support and cooperation of our community members.
