Drumheller & District Humane Society

Our Mission

The Drumheller & District Humane Society is dedicated to providing compassionate care for animals in need while advancing welfare through education, advocacy, and community support. We envision a community where every animal is respected, valued, and given the loving care they deserve.

Who We Are

We are a passionate team of staff and volunteers united by a simple, shared purpose: to help animals in our region find their forever families. Operating without government or city funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community, grants, and dedicated fundraising to keep our shelter doors open and our tails wagging.

How We Help

Our shelter at 31 Hygrade Crescent serves as a safe haven where animals receive medical exams, core vaccinations, and spay or neuter surgeries before they find their new homes. Beyond adoption, we actively support pet owners through our barrier-free pet food bank and a spay/neuter assistance fund designed to keep families together. By working with the community, we strive to reduce the financial barriers that often prevent animals from receiving the care they need.

Finding Your Perfect Match

We believe that adoption is the start of a beautiful, lifelong partnership. Our dedicated adoption committee carefully reviews every application to ensure that our rescues are placed in the safe, stable, and loving environments they deserve. Whether you are looking for a playful companion or a calm best friend, our team is here to guide you through the process and help you find a pet that fits your lifestyle.

10/26 - Lofi is coming back !!!!!!! Meet him October 28th, 5pm-7pm at the shelter! 31 Hy Grade Crescent Thanks to his amazing foster family, we’re happy to announce that Lofi’s happy tail has HEALED! 🧡 His time in foster care also gave him a chance to decompress, and his goofy, bubbly personality has really thrived with the extra freedom of a home. But Lofi is scheduled to return to the shelter full-time on October 27th, and we’re worried that his happy tail could reopen once he’s back in a kennel. So we’re throwing him a Lofi Party to help find him a home before that happens! A little about Lofi (pronounced Loaf-ee): 🐾 He’s a 1-year-old hound mix. 🐾 He’s HILARIOUS. Whether it’s his wiggly body, stumbling over his ridiculously oversized paws, or his bubbly personality, this boy keeps our team laughing. 🐾 He’s affectionate, playful, and absolutely convinced he’s a lap dog. 🐾 He’s a goofy teenager who would love a family to call his own! We can’t thank his foster family enough for giving Lofi the chance to heal, decompress, and just be himself. Now we need your help finding him a forever home so that tail can keep on wagging!

10/24 - We have SO many kittens available for adoption! Our friends at Badlands Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram have supported us since before we launched the dog program. Not only did they donate the last $1000 needed for construction, but they also regularly call and ask what we need for food, and deliver it! Their support means so much to us. ❤️ So, it was only fitting that we call on them to help “advertise” our adoptable cats! We really put their sales lingo to the test - how do you think they did? Drop us a comment with your favourite line 😁

10/5 - Save Lofi’s Tail! 🧡 Meet Lofi, pronounced “Loaf-ee” (think loaf of bread). He’s a 1-year-old neutered male hound mix with a condition commonly called “happy tail.” This happens when a dog’s tail repeatedly hits hard surfaces causing an open wound that is hard to heal. Lofi is such a happy guy that he’s been repeatedly whacking his tail against the same spot on his kennel wall. Anyone who has worked in a veterinary clinic or shelter has probably just winced reading that. Happy tail can mean a LOT of blood and a lot of cleaning. The biggest concern is getting Lofi’s tail healed. If the wound becomes infected, doesn’t heal, or the damage progresses to the point where bone is exposed, amputation may ultimately be necessary. We’re hoping getting Lofi into a home will give his tail the best chance to heal. Less kennel time and fewer hard surfaces to repeatedly whack it against could make a big difference. However, we want to be upfront that even in a home, there is still a chance his happy tail could continue and require treatment or amputation. And while we’re talking about Lofi’s tail… can we appreciate how cool it is?! His tail is covered in spots. 🐾 Lofi is looking for someone who can give him a chance to heal, while understanding that his tail may need some extra care. Please share Lofi’s post. The right person for him might be out there, and we’d love to find them. 🧡 #savelofistail
