At Border Paws Animal Shelter, we are dedicated to enriching the lives of people and companion animals through compassionate care, dedicated programs, and meaningful community engagement.
Who We Are
Previously known as The Lloydminster & District SPCA, our organization remains a cornerstone of our community. We serve the Lloydminster and surrounding area, working tirelessly to address local challenges related to population control and disease management.
How We Care
Every year, over 700 animals find sanctuary within our doors, where they are supported by a hardworking team of staff 7 days a week. We ensure every animal is ready for their new home by providing necessary spay/neuter services and full vaccinations, an investment of roughly $500 per animal. Beyond the shelter, we are proud to operate Tailored Tails, a professional grooming salon where every dollar of profit goes directly back to supporting the animals in our care.

Frankie is one of our newer adoptable kitties, and this shy little gentleman is still figuring out shelter life. The shelter can be a big, overwhelming place for a boy like him, and we have a feeling his true personality will shine so much brighter once he has a home of his own. Frankie’s idea of a perfect day? Finding a cozy little spot, curling up, and snoozing the day away. He's a calm, gentle boy who isn't looking for a life full of chaos. He just needs somewhere safe where he can finally relax. A furry friend might be a bonus! Frankie came to us alongside another kitty and seems to do well with feline companions, so a suitable kitty friend may help him feel more comfortable. Frankie may not be the kind of cat who runs up to greet you right away. He needs time to settle in, learn to trust, and discover that he's safe. But for the person willing to be patient, give him space, and let him blossom at his own pace, he could be such a special companion. Frankie isn't asking for much. Just a cozy bed, a safe home, and someone who understands that love doesn't always happen overnight. If you have a soft spot for the shy ones, the quiet ones, and the kitties who just need someone to believe in them… Frankie might be YOUR boy. 10/21 - 140 DAYS. ONE VERY SMART BOY. AND STILL NO ONE TO CALL HIS OWN. Meet Crayon, the gentleman kitty who’s ready to show you exactly why he deserves to be someone’s favourite little shadow. DID SOMEONE SAY SMART KITTY?! Crayon is food-motivated, eager to learn, and already working on his SIT command! Who says cats can’t be trained? Professional Shadow: Wherever his people go, Crayon is right behind them. He’s not just looking for a home… he’s looking for HIS person. Playtime? Absolutely! He’s starting to show interest in toys, but honestly? Spending time with his humans is his favourite activity. Certified Snuggle Buddy: After a long day of following you around and showing off those big brains, Crayon is always ready to curl up for some quality cuddle time. Gord is a gentle little gentleman who knows how to keep his playtime soft. He might give you a tiny nibble here and there, but he’s careful not to bite too hard! Basically, he’s here to play with your heart… and maybe your fingers, too. Gord can be a little shy when you first meet him, but give him a little time, some gentle pets, and a chance to feel safe, and you’ll start to see his sweet personality shine. 10/13 - 🚨A Thanksgiving Blessing for Noel… and an Unexpected Emergency. 🚨 (These pups are not available for viewing, fostering, or for applications at this time) This Thanksgiving, our sweet mama Noel went into labour, and our staff stayed by her side to support her through the birth of her babies. After delivering five healthy little ones, Noel struggled to deliver her sixth, and we knew she needed emergency veterinary care. On Sunday evening, we rushed her to Lloydminster Animal Hospital for an emergency C-section. Thanks to the quick action of Dr. Wennekamp and Shayla, Noel's life was saved, and she is now back with her five surviving babies. Sadly, we lost the sixth little one due to an abnormality. While we are incredibly grateful that Noel made it through, this unexpected emergency has left us with $2,300 owing to Lloydminster Animal Hospital. Would you consider helping us? 10/5 - Need a little pick-me-up? One of the best ways to cheer yourself up AND give our animals some socialization time is to come visit us at the shelter! 10/3 - PARADISE IS READY FOR HER PURR-FECT HOME! Sweet Paradise came to Border Paws with her two babies, and now that her little ones are getting settled, it’s Mama’s turn to find a family of her own! This beautiful calico girl is an absolute sweetheart who loves cuddles, attention, and greeting her favourite people — especially when breakfast is being served! She’s always happy to soak up some extra affection. Paradise is doing okay with the other cats and is happy to coexist as long as they respect her space. She hasn’t met dogs yet, so slow and proper introductions would be important. Paradise was just brought to Pet Valu Vermilion, where she’ll be hoping to catch the eye of someone who wants to give this sweet mama the forever home she deserves! 10/3 - JUST LOOK AT THOSE CHEEKS! Meet Roger! This big, handsome white kitty has an even BIGGER heart, and he just wanted to pop in and say hello! Roger is the kind of boy who believes every human should have two important things: a comfy lap and a hand ready for cheek rubs. His big, fluffy cheeks are definitely his favourite feature, and he is always happy to soak up some extra attention! He’s a sweet, cuddly, laid-back guy who enjoys spending time with his people. He has a playful side, but most of the time he’s perfectly content relaxing, getting loved on, and enjoying the good life. And if you happen to bring food into the equation… Well, Roger is VERY interested. Roger hasn’t had the chance to meet any other cats face-to-face yet, and he hasn’t met any dogs either, so we’re still learning about how he feels about furry roommates. Any introductions will need to be slow and proper. And before everyone falls in love and sends us an application… Roger is NOT accepting applications just yet! He simply wanted to introduce himself and remind everyone that there are some pretty amazing cats waiting for their turn at a forever home. For now, Roger will be busy doing what he does best: looking handsome, eating snacks, and collecting cheek rubs.
