Our Mission

At the Medicine Hat SPCA, we are dedicated to providing protective care for sick, injured, and unwanted animals while fostering a community that understands and meets their needs. We strive to create a world where all companion animals enjoy the five essential freedoms, from hunger and thirst to the ability to express natural, well-being-promoting behaviors.

Our History and Community

Established in 1979, we have proudly served the Medicine Hat area for over 40 years. From our humble beginnings relying on foster homes to our current facility on Southwest Drive, our growth has been driven by a shared goal: to build a community that universally values animals.

How We Care

We operate as a community-based shelter that provides protective care, enrichment, and medical support for animals in need. Our work is bolstered by an active foster network, allowing us to provide individualized attention to moms with litters, orphaned puppies and kittens, and animals with specific medical or behavioral requirements. We are committed to a Capacity for Care system that ensures every animal receives the attention they deserve, and we do not euthanize for space, age, or breed.

Finding Your Perfect Companion

Adoption is the start of a joyful partnership that enriches the lives of both the person and the animal. Our goal is to help you find the perfect forever home match for your lifestyle and our animals' unique personalities. We believe that choosing to adopt a family member is one of the most rewarding decisions you can make.
