The Arizona Animal Welfare League exists to provide excellent care, protection, and loving compassion for the animals entrusted to us while promoting humane values for the benefit of all. Since 1971, we have been dedicated to ensuring every pet in our care receives the time and support needed to find their perfect match.
Founded by animal lovers led by the legendary Amanda Blake, we have grown from a small group of volunteers into Arizona’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter. Over the past five decades, our mission has evolved to address the needs of pets and people across the state, ensuring that even those in rural areas have access to vital veterinary and adoption resources.
We operate as a limited-intake shelter, meaning we only accept as many pets as our facilities and foster network can provide for with the highest standards of care. Our Phoenix campus and Chandler Fashion Center location house adoptable pets who have been medically and behaviorally evaluated, while our network of foster families provides temporary homes for those needing extra space and affection.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and our counselors are here to listen, guide, and help you find a pet that fits your unique lifestyle. Because we believe in life-long support, every adoption includes access to our behavior helpline and resources, ensuring you and your new family member feel confident and connected.
Your new best friend is waiting for you today. We invite you to browse our current gallery of adoptable pets online or visit us in person to experience the difference our community makes firsthand. Come meet your match and see how together, we bring them home.
