AZ Small Dog Rescue

Our Mission

Arizona Small Dog Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need and caring for them until we find their perfect forever family. We believe that love comes in all sizes, and we are committed to saving lives and creating happy outcomes for every dog that enters our care.

Why We Rescue

Since our founding, we have been a passionate team of volunteers and staff working to address the needs of dogs across the Valley. We take in owner surrenders and save countless dogs from kill shelters and overcrowded organizations, ensuring that every animal receives the respect and care they deserve.

Our Approach to Care

We operate as a shelter-based rescue with an active foster network, providing a safe environment where health and welfare are our top priorities. From medical care and daily feeding to socialization and training support, our team handles every detail necessary to keep our dogs happy while they wait for their new homes. We are proud to be recognized as a Top Rated Nonprofit and consistently strive for excellence in everything we do.

Your Role in Our Journey

Finding a forever home is the ultimate goal for every dog in our care, and we believe in building strong, lasting connections between pets and their new families. By providing a transparent and supportive adoption experience, we help you find the perfect furry companion to join your life. Your decision to adopt is the final, most rewarding step in our rescue mission.

9/18 - This week’s Staycation Spotlight is Popsicle, she’s at @azsmalldogs. When I first picked her up she was fearful, going limp when held, and completely freezing on leash. Then she got home, met my dogs, and started showing us who she really is. 🩷 Within a day, Popsicle was playing with toys, getting zoomies, sleeping under the covers, asking everyone for attention, and walking on leash. She also revealed that she’s a passenger princess. She loves riding in the car and watching the world go by from any spot that puts her at eye level with her people. Popsicle is one year old, extremely food motivated, quiet, playful, affectionate once she feels comfortable, and wonderful with the dogs she met during her stay. She may need a little patience around unfamiliar people, objects, and places, but calm repetition and a few pieces of chicken made a huge difference. She could potentially fit into an apartment or house, either as an only dog or with a compatible dog. The scared dog someone meets during the first few minutes is not the whole Popsicle. Give her a little time, and there is a funny, loving, toy-obsessed passenger princess waiting underneath. If Popsicle sounds like your dog, contact Arizona Small Dog Rescue. Even if you cannot adopt, sharing this video may help her find her forever home. #rescuedog #adoptme #phx #azfamily #vizsla
