The Humane Society of the Ouachitas is dedicated to serving the homeless animals of Polk County, Arkansas, as a no-kill shelter. We work tirelessly to provide safe refuge and essential care until every pet finds a permanent, loving home.
Since 1978, our organization has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in the Ouachitas community. As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, we are committed to the prevention of animal cruelty and neglect while providing vital services like vaccinations and low-cost spay/neuter resources.
Operating out of our Mena facility, we maintain a vibrant shelter that houses approximately 60 pets at any given time. Beyond our shelter walls, our fabulous Foster Home network plays a crucial role in providing specialized care for kittens, puppies, and pets recovering from surgery. With an incredible 98.2% live release rate, our dedicated team of staff and all-volunteer board ensures every animal receives the attention they deserve.
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and our team is here to help you find the perfect match for your family. By filling out our Meet Your Match questionnaire, you help us understand your lifestyle, ensuring a successful transition for both you and your new companion. Your decision to adopt not only changes an animal's life, but it also enriches your own, making you the entire world to your new best friend.
Your journey with us doesn't have to stop at adoption; we invite you to visit us in Mena or explore our available pets online to see who is waiting for you. Whether you choose to adopt, foster, volunteer your time, or donate to support our daily operations, your contribution directly impacts the lives of local animals.
