Our Mission to Protect
The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services is dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of both people and animals across the unincorporated areas of our county. Every day, we strive to serve as a compassionate resource for our community and the animals that share our homes.
A Commitment to Care
We operate as an open-admission agency, providing a safe haven for nearly 10,000 lost, homeless, and abandoned animals each year. Our work is built on the foundation of the 'Getting to Zero' program, a collaborative initiative that has helped us achieve a remarkable 87 percent save rate by focusing on the humane and responsible care of every companion animal in our charge.
How We Help
Beyond providing shelter, our team works tirelessly to provide veterinary care, conduct animal welfare investigations, and manage licensing services. We believe that caring for animals is a community effort, and we maintain two county shelters where our staff and dedicated volunteers offer enrichment and support to every pet waiting for their new home.
