The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services is dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of both people and animals. We strive to create a community where companion animals are cared for with compassion and responsibility.
Who We Are
As the open-admission animal services agency for the unincorporated areas of San Diego County, we are committed to serving our local community. Each year, we provide care and refuge for nearly 10,000 lost, homeless, and abandoned animals, working tirelessly to ensure they receive the support they need to thrive.
How We Care
We operate two county shelters, serving as a safe harbor where animals receive veterinary care and dedicated attention. Through our Getting to Zero program, we work alongside a coalition of local shelters to promote responsible pet ownership and maximize adoption opportunities, having successfully increased our save rate to 87 percent over the past four decades.
