Pacific Animal Welfare Society (PAWS of Coronado)
Our Mission
PAWS of Coronado is dedicated to advocating for animal welfare by providing compassionate adoption and rehabilitation services while fostering a more educated community. We believe every animal deserves a safe and loving forever home.
Rooted in Compassion
Founded in 2003 by Dorothy “Louise” Shirey, our organization was built on a dream of creating a dedicated animal rescue for the Coronado community. For decades, we have honored Louise’s legacy by providing high-quality care and love to the animals who need us most, growing into a trusted partner for both pets and their families.
How We Care
We operate as a non-profit organization with a jurisdictional responsibility to provide animal sheltering and licensing within Coronado. Our animals thrive through a combination of our dedicated facility and our expansive foster care network, which provides the warmth and comfort of a home environment. We are proud to be part of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition, working toward a community where every healthy or treatable animal finds safety.
Your New Best Friend
We believe in thoughtful, individualized matches that create joyful, lasting partnerships between pets and adopters. By taking the time to understand each animal’s unique personality and health needs, we ensure our furry friends find the perfect setting to live their best lives. Adopting with us means you are gaining a lifelong companion while supporting a rescue that treats every animal with dignity and professional care.
