Founded in 1977 by Dr. Alice Villalobos in memory of Peter Zippi, our organization is dedicated to creating a better world for animals in need. We work tirelessly to end pet homelessness by providing a safe harbor for cats and kittens and supporting our community with accessible spay and neuter services.
Our Mission in Action
As a proud no-kill rescue organization, we focus our efforts on the intake, care, and placement of abandoned and special-needs cats. By providing essential medical care and rehabilitation, we prepare these feline friends for their second chance at a loving life. Our work extends beyond our walls, as we actively fund spay and neuter assistance for community cats and other companion animals to ensure a healthier, more responsible population.
A Dedicated Care Environment
Our shelter operates from within the VCA Coast Animal Hospital in Hermosa Beach, where our compassionate team and volunteers provide hands-on care. Beyond our facility, we rely on a supportive network of foster homes to help our cats recover from surgery, provide quiet spaces for mothers with kittens, and offer socialization for those who need a little extra time to trust. This blend of professional care and home-based nurturing allows every cat to thrive while waiting for their forever family.

10/2 - Joji, our man of mystery, has somehow ended up with two birthdays. 🥳 One was assigned to him when he was rescued in Long Beach in 2020. The other appears to be one we made up for him along the way. Is he 11 years young? Or 8 years and 9 months young? Does Joji know the truth and simply refuse to tell us? Probably.
