The Humane Society of Tuolumne County (HSOTC) is dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in our community by finding loving, permanent homes for the cats and dogs in our care. We strive to inspire, educate, and engage our community to help end animal suffering while promoting compassion and responsibility for all animals.
Founded in 1947, we have spent decades serving as a safe haven for animals in transition. Since moving to our current Jamestown facility in 1997, we have grown alongside the community, remaining a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies entirely on your generous contributions and grants rather than government funding.
As a limited-intake, no-kill shelter, we take pride in the personalized attention we provide to every resident. By managing our population carefully, we ensure each animal receives the medical and behavioral assessments they need to thrive before finding their perfect family. We also work actively to reduce animal overpopulation through robust, low-cost spay and neuter programs for our community.
We believe that a successful adoption is a partnership built on compatibility, which is why our caretakers are here to guide you toward the best match for your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a playful pup or a gentle cat, our goal is to create a joyful, lasting connection for both you and your new companion. We encourage the whole household—including existing pets—to participate in the process to ensure a smooth transition into your home.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to visit our shelter in Jamestown between Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, to meet our current guests.
