Our Mission
The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is dedicated to advancing the well-being of animals and people throughout our diverse communities. We work to protect both people and animals through a commitment to compassionate care, effective enforcement, and thoughtful community intervention.
Who We Are
As one of the largest animal control agencies in the nation, we serve over three million residents across more than 3,400 square miles, from the deserts and mountains to our coastal areas. Our agency functions as a vital municipal service, operating seven animal care centers that provide shelter, medical care, and a second chance for homeless and abandoned animals.

We have proudly adopted the philosophy of Socially Conscious Animal Sheltering, which balances the Five Freedoms of animal welfare with our commitment to public safety. Every animal in our care receives nutritious food, veterinary exams, vaccinations, and enrichment programs designed to improve their quality of life.
