Kitten Rescue -Los Angeles

Our Mission

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization devoted to rescuing homeless cats and kittens in Los Angeles and finding them loving, permanent homes. We are dedicated to saving cats from the streets and city shelters to ensure they have the bright futures they deserve.

Our History and Community

Founded in 1997 after a chance encounter with a kitten in need, we have grown into one of the largest and most respected animal welfare groups in Los Angeles. Over the past 26 years, our community has come together to rescue and place over 35,000 cats, fueled by our shared commitment to helping the most vulnerable felines in our city.

How We Care

Our work is powered by a dedicated, volunteer-led model that combines a critical network of foster homes with our unique KR Sanctuary. While our fosters provide the personal care and socialization that prepares cats for family life, our sanctuary enables us to handle emergency rescues and provide long-term care for those who need a little extra time.

Your Journey to Adoption

Adoption is a joyful, lifelong partnership, and we are here to help you find the perfect match for your home and lifestyle. Because we live closely with the cats in our care, we know their unique personalities and can guide you toward a feline friend who will truly thrive with you. We prioritize transparency and thoughtful screening to ensure every placement is a lasting, happy success for both you and your new cat.

Start Your Story

Clearly, saving cats is a cause that crosses species. 😹 Together, we’ve raised over $6,500 to help rescue, heal and find loving homes for cats in need—and we’re still going! 🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️There’s time to cheer us on with a donation. 10/11 - When we rescued Sadi from Harbor Shelter the other day, she was a happy playful Seal Point Siamese on the fast road to a happy life. 🐱🤍Then we noticed something was wrong. Sadi had a prolapsed rectum, a condition , not uncommon in young kittens, but potentially deadly if left untreated. We got her right to our partner vet @cares.pet and their expert team was able to do a “purse string suture” to repair her today! We picked up Sadi and returned her to Perry’s Place a few hours later —with all her post op instructions and medications. She is doing so well ! Judging by how busy she was on arrival to Perry’s Place, “bedrest” is going to be her biggest challenge going forward! Thanks to all of you who support Kitten Rescue’s mission, because we couldn’t do this work without you. 🙏 If you would like to donate to support Sadie’s surgery recovery, just go to the link in our bio 👆👆 and let us know it’s for Sadi! . . . . #prolapse #kittenemergency #ittakesavillage #sealpointsiamesse

10/10 - It’s time for some “hissy kittens”! These adorable little mean girls and boys—are SEVEN babies we just rescued along with their feral mom. We go their mom spayed and she is staying on with her kittens until they are eating on their own. The family now has temporary lodging at Perry’s Place. 💙Gotta love LA—it’s still kitten season in October and we’re just getting to the end of major heat wave. . . . . #yearroundkittens #kittenseason #catrescue #kittenrescue

10/8 - We’re not gonna lie—we’re still basking in the afterglow of Saturday night’s Fur Ball at the Skirball! Thank you to all who attended, supported, bid or donated to help save cats’ lives. ❤️ First up: a peek inside our pre-show VIP Kitten Lounge, sweetly captured by Lori @lorialtmanphotography. Dressed-up guests, beautiful decor and kittens to cuddle—our kind of party! 🐾 Nathan the Cat Lady got a lesson in bottle feeding, while other guests happily played with and cuddled the kittens. One young guest even came prepared with her favorite apron—perfect for carrying a kitten or two! Then we looked up and—hello, Miranda Cosgrove! You never know who you’ll meet in the Kitten Lounge…or which kitten will steal your heart. 😻 And as this party wound down, our M.C. Mark Thompson had to “scoot” away for his stage duties. 😻 The man is a trooper- he did it all with a broken leg!) 👏👏 Stay tuned for more from this magical night! . . . #FurBall SkirballCenter KittenRescue AnimalFundraiser SavingCats

9/29 - The Big Cats X The Nuts. 🐯🐅🥜 Our cam room—where you can watch kittens 24/7 on Explore.org under “Kitten Rescue”—has two new friends join the mix.   Two kittens from the Nuts litter, Cashew and Hazelnut—have joined and the party continues.  🎉 From the outside looking in—there was great drama at the back window (across the “street” from FELV) the other day.  Many kittens crowded in one corner with intense purpose. 🤔 It turns out there was a FLY at the window sill. Intense competition ensued. The best was the “standoff” at the end with two kitties’ paws stacked over the fly. We never did find out which won !    . . . , #explorekittens #camroom #camkittens #adoptus #explore

9/28 - A few weeks ago, Harbor shelter alerted us to a young black cat named Starmie who urgently needed help. ✨🐈‍⬛✨ We brought her straight to our sanctuary. Her eyes were crusted shut and infected, and she was so congested that she needed a nebulizer right away. She had bumps on her head, hair loss on her back and tail, and bleeding around her mouth. We took Starmie to Animal Dermatology Specialists for an assessment and treatment. Her skin problems appeared to be caused by a severe flea allergy, with a secondary infection making things worse. With medication and supportive care, this little girl began to bounce back. Today, Starmie is recovering beautifully at our sanctuary. She’s well enough that she was recently spayed, she loves human attention, and soon she’ll be ready for a forever home. 😻 We may never know how long she lived outdoors or what she endured before she reached us. What we do know is that she’s safe now. 🖤 Starmie is why we do this work. Her rescue, treatment, and recovery were possible because people choose to support Kitten Rescue. If her story moves you, please help us be there for the next cat who needs us: buy a Fur Ball ticket, make a donation, or bid in our charity auction. 👆👆 Links are in our bio. ✨    📸credit @lorialtmanphotography   . . . . #rescued #catfundraiser #furball #skirball  catadoption

9/26 - Volunteer Jessica reports that she “took Cabbage’s ears” which is the cutest thing ever since he is with Top Shelf Crew @topshelfcrewatkittenrescue. That means he generally (always) hangs out on a high shelf with his two “look don’t touch” BFFs Spunky and Nubbins. In reality he is more on the “shy” side but still! Well, the evidence is in, and Cabbage’s ears were definitely “taken”! Now we’d like to believe Jessica moved on to Spunky….. . . , #sanctuarylife #volunteersrock #catadoption #topshelfcrewatkittenrescue

9/24 - “The kitties aren’t judging you… unless you haven’t bought your Fur Ball ticket yet. 👀🐾 We visited Perry’s Place yesterday and met cats at every stage of their journey: beautiful kitties ready for adoption, newborn babies just beginning theirs, and older cats receiving the medical care and attention they need. This is what your Fur Ball ticket helps make possible. Every day, Kitten Rescue brings cats to safety, cares for them, and helps them find their way home. There’s still a seat for you at Fur Ball at the Skirball on Saturday, October 3! 9/24 - We were at Perry’s Place today, visiting all the new kitties the team just pulled from West Valley Shelter and there’s going to be a lot to show you there ! Many had just been spay/neutered and are going to recover and working on their social skills again ! Meanwhile, we visited Dabby, the kitten with the severe eye infections who had to have his eyes removed. He is healing really well and certainly his spirits are up! My fingers were no match for his hunting instincts and he was quickly declared the victor of the battle over my fingers. So many special, precious kitties today—so get ready for more tomorrow. . . . . #dabby #blindkitty #eyelesskitty #kittenwarrior #perrysplace
