For over 150 years, LA Animal Services has been dedicated to creating a more humane Los Angeles. Our mission is to save and protect the animals who enter our care, ensuring that every pet receives the support they need to thrive.
Established in 1863, we have grown into one of the largest municipal shelter systems in the United States. We serve approximately 60,000 animals annually across six state-of-the-art shelter locations, from the San Pedro Harbor to the West Valley.
We operate as a team of dedicated animal care technicians, veterinarians, and compassionate volunteers who provide enrichment and medical support to every pet in our facility. Our goal is to maintain a 90% live-save rate, ensuring we reach national benchmarks for animal wellbeing through progressive programs like our Pet Food Pantry and robust foster initiatives.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and we believe in creating successful, long-lasting partnerships between our pets and their new families. Our staff provides guidance to help you find the perfect match, ensuring that your new furry friend feels right at home from day one. When you adopt from us, your pet arrives vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered, so you can focus on the fun part—getting to know your new best friend.
Ready to meet your new family member? You can explore our available pets online, visit us at your nearest shelter Tuesday through Sunday, or reach out to our team to learn more about volunteering and fostering. We invite you to be part of the solution and help us continue our tradition of kindness by adopting or supporting your local shelter today.
