At Contra Costa County Animal Services, our mission is to provide dedicated care for the animals in our community and to connect every pet with a loving home. We are proud to serve as a hub of compassion, where every animal is treated with dignity and care.
Serving Our Community Since 1959
Our story began in 1959, and since then, we have evolved significantly to meet the needs of our local animals. In May 2005, we expanded our commitment by opening our state-of-the-art shelter complex in Martinez, featuring a two-acre facility designed to prioritize the comfort and well-being of the animals in our care.
Our Care Model
We believe in a community-focused approach to animal welfare, supported by a team of 75 dedicated employees and over 150 passionate volunteers. Animals in our care reside at our Martinez shelter or within our supportive foster homes, where they receive the attention and socialization they need until they are ready for their next chapter. We work tirelessly to ensure every animal finds the right environment to thrive.

9/29 - Last Sunday, we were proud to partner with the @bissellpets and join SOS Richmond, CORE, and other community partners for a vaccine and wellness clinic supporting pets and their people in Richmond’s unhoused community. Together, we served 68 families and 108 pets — 71 dogs and 37 cats! 🐶 Dogs: 57 rabies vaccines, 59 DAPP vaccines, 37 microchips and 18 veterinary exams 🐱 Cats: 31 rabies vaccines, 32 FVRCP vaccines, 15 microchips and 4 veterinary exams We also had 23 pets whose families expressed interest in spay/neuter services, and the first spay appointment is already scheduled! We’re grateful to everyone who came together to make essential care more accessible and help keep pets healthy, safe, and with the people who love them.

9/28 - 💎 Hidden Gems: Episode 16 Meet Coffee! ☕️❤️ This sweet 2-year-old( we said the wrong age in the video) girl came to us with her buddy King Kong, who was recently adopted. Now it’s Coffee’s turn! Coffee can be a little anxious when you first meet her, but with a person she trusts by her side, she starts to feel safe and settle in. She’s the kind of dog who will likely form a really special bond with her person. And the quickest way to her heart? Belly rubs. Lots of them. Coffee could do well with another dog in the home. If you already have a pup, we recommend bringing them in for a meet-and-greet to make sure everyone clicks. Come meet Coffee today - we're open until 5pm!
