Napa County Animal Shelter

Our Mission

The Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is dedicated to serving our community by providing a safe and healthy environment for our citizens and their animals. We are committed to promoting animal welfare and providing education to ensure responsible, lifelong pet ownership.

Supporting Our Community

Every year, we welcome approximately 2,300 animals into our care, and our important work is made possible by our dedicated staff, volunteers, and the generous support of our Napa Valley neighbors. By working together, we provide essential resources like spay/neuter vouchers, community cat programs, and emergency services to keep our pets and our community thriving.

Our Care Model

We believe that every animal deserves a chance to thrive, whether they are waiting for their perfect family at our facility or benefiting from our robust Foster Program. Our foster parents provide invaluable love and care to animals that aren't quite ready for adoption due to age, health, or behavioral needs, effectively helping us provide 'volunteering from home.' Our staff works daily to ensure each animal's needs are met, while our volunteers provide the necessary enrichment to keep our animals healthy and happy.

Finding Your Perfect Match

We are dedicated to finding furever homes for all our adoptable animals through a thoughtful, personalized meet-and-greet process. This careful approach helps us ensure the best possible match for your family, your existing pets, and our animals, fostering long-term success and joyful reunions.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We invite you to experience the rewarding journey of adoption by visiting our shelter or exploring our available pets online. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or participate in our fostering network, there are many ways to get involved and make a lasting impact in an animal's life.

10/12 - CAL FIRE Station 27 has a big question for the community: should they get a station cat? 🐱🚒 The firefighters stopped by the shelter today to meet some of our cats, and this one is already making a pretty compelling case. But the department is divided, so we need your help! Vote in the comments: YES to a station cat or NOT YET. Let’s see if we can help this little candidate @napacountyanimalshelter win the hearts of Station 27! 💛

9/22 - 😂💨 The nightly pre-bedtime ZOOMIES! Every night, like clockwork, one of our foster pups goes out for his final potty break before bed…and gets the zoomies. A few wild laps around the yard, and THEN he’s ready for bed. 😂 So, why do dogs do this? Zoomies actually have a name: FRAPs — Frenetic Random Activity Periods. They’re a normal, spontaneous burst of energy that many dogs experience. For some dogs, especially in the evening, zoomies can be a way of releasing excess or pent-up energy and excitement before settling down to rest. You might also notice them after being crated, after a bath, following a period of inactivity, during exciting play, or at predictable times in their daily routine. It’s basically his body saying, “I’ve got a little more energy to get out before I call it a night!” 😂 As long as your dog is in a safe environment and the behavior isn’t associated with distress, those crazy few minutes are generally completely normal. For this guy, his nightly routine is officially: Potty ➡️ ZOOM ➡️ Bed. 🐕💨😴 And we wouldn’t have it any other way. 💙🐾 #AdoptBruce #FunFact #AdoptableDog #NapaCountyAnimalShelter
