The Contra Costa Humane Society is dedicated to improving the quality of life for dogs and cats in our community, finding loving homes for animals in need, and providing vital support to pet owners. We envision a world where all animals are cared for, respected, and loved.
Established in 1991, we were formed by the merger of two longstanding local animal welfare groups: Stop Pets’ Annual Yield (SPAY) and the Animal Protection Bureau (APB). As a 100% donation-funded nonprofit, we strive to support our municipal shelters and the wider community.
We believe in providing the best start for our residents, whether they are in our specialized facility or in foster homes. Our expanded Kitty Corner facility allows us to provide a free-roam environment for socialized cats, a quiet space for acclimation, and dedicated areas for hospice care.
We rely on a compassionate network of over 100 volunteers who provide daily care, socialization, and love to our four-legged residents. By utilizing both our on-site space and foster homes, we ensure that every animal receives the attention they deserve while waiting to meet their forever family.
Adoption is a wonderful journey, and we are here to ensure that your new family member is a great fit for your home, lifestyle, and existing family. Because every animal has a unique temperament, we encourage you to browse our available pets and complete an application to help us connect you with your ideal companion.
We believe in the joy of adoption and are proud to guide you through the process of saving a life. All of our adoptable animals come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
We invite you to visit us during our open adoption hours held most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at our Pleasant Hill location. Check our events page for the latest schedule, or browse our online listings to start your journey toward a new best friend today!
