High Sierra Animal Rescue is a no-kill dog rescue dedicated to providing safety, comfort, and medical care to dogs in need, giving them a meaningful chance to start over. Our mission is to connect every dog with a loving, committed forever home and celebrate the happy endings that follow.
Our Story
Founded in May of 1999, we were created to address a critical need in our mountain community for homeless and abandoned animals. Over the last two decades, our team has grown into a dedicated group of professionals and volunteers who have placed over 4,500 animals into permanent, loving homes.
Our Commitment to Care
Operating out of our Portola, California facility, we provide a safe temporary environment where dogs receive behavioral assessments, training, and necessary medical support. With 17 rescue kennels, we work with a manageable group of dogs at a time, ensuring each animal receives individual love and attention from our trained staff. Our state-of-the-art facility features climate-controlled indoor runs and large outdoor play areas to keep our guests comfortable and thriving while they wait for their new families.
