Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County
Our Mission
The Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County is dedicated to saving lives and providing a compassionate bridge for animals in need. We work tirelessly to ensure every animal in our care finds a loving forever home where they can truly thrive.
Our Story
Our journey began in the early 1980s with a focus on spay and neuter services, eventually growing into the shelter we operate today at 9700 Uva Drive in Redwood Valley. For over thirty years, our community has stepped up time and again to support our mission, helping us maintain a safe haven for displaced dogs and cats.
Our Care Model
We believe in the power of professional care and community support to provide a high quality of life for our residents. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers provides enrichment, medical care, and daily attention to the roughly 1,000 animals that pass through our doors annually. By combining shelter-based care with our foster and foster-to-adopt programs, we ensure every pet receives the specialized support they need while waiting for their perfect match.
Your Partner in Adoption
Adoption is a joyful, lifelong commitment, and our team is here to ensure the transition is seamless for both you and your new companion. We carefully review applications to create thoughtful matches that respect both the animal's personality and your lifestyle. Our support does not end when you leave our shelter; we remain a resource for you, providing ongoing guidance as your new family member settles in.
Join Our Mission
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our Adoptable Dogs and Adoptable Cats online, or come visit us during our open hours to meet our residents in person. Together, we can save lives and bring more happiness into our community.

9/28 - Guess who came by to finalize his adoption this weekend?! Little Warrior is all grown up, healthy and so loved by his new humans! He’s got all the sass of an orange cat and seeing him was a great reminder, after the loss of Pop Rocks, of how important our work is to the lives we do get to save… and even for the ones we don’t. ❤️🩹 The outcome is not a reflection of the effort ✨

9/27 - 🎉Let’s get this party started!🎉 Party Popper, Confetti Cannon, and Jumbo Jamboree are already settling into their new space! These three are feeling right at home, soaking up all the cozy vibes, and showing off their wonderful personalities. You might notice something special about all three of these party animals, they have tested positive for FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). But please don't let those four little letters stop you from meeting them! FeLV+ kitties can live incredibly happy, normal lives as long as they are kept safely indoors. They just need to go to a home where they are the only cats, or where they can be best friends with other FeLV+ kitties. Because we want to see these sweet cats find the loving families they deserve, their adoption fees have been completely waived! If you have room in your heart and home for a little extra joy, come meet the life of the party! ❤️ 🕒 OPEN HOURS: Wed & Fri: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM Sat & Sun: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM *Thursday by appointment* 📍9700 Uva Drive, Redwood Valley, CA 📞Phone: (707) 485-0123 📧🐱Cats: Michelle@hsimc.org 📧🐶 Dogs: Rosa@hsimc.org 📧📝 General Inquiries: info@hsimc.org

9/26 - Happy Saturday from Free Dog Trainers who is fostering Jolene and her 7 week old puppies! Jolene may no longer be feeding them or cleaning up after them, but she still has an important job to do: She is a big part of teaching her puppies how to play with other dogs! She’s got free access to be able to leave her puppies and hang out elsewhere in the house, but it’s still critical that she spend time with them over the next week and play with them. Just a few more weeks until they’re all ready for homes of their own! 🐶🐾

9/21 - Pop Rocks did her first milk "pull" from a 6 mL syringe. Complete with ear wiggles 🥹 After sucking down three shots from a 3mL syringe at her 5 am feeding... we knew it was time to graduate. We also celebrated her new milestones by throwing away her feeding tube! After six days of tube feeding and fighting to keep her alive we think she is turning the corner! We are so proud of this little one and our lifesaving team 💕
