Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center

Our Mission

The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing animals in need by providing compassionate care and community-focused support. We are proud to be the first and only no-kill animal shelter in Ventura County, ensuring every animal receives a safe, humane environment.

Our Story

Born from a community conversation in 2011, SPARC was created to serve as a humane, local solution for homeless and abandoned pets. Our founders established a firm commitment to a no-kill model, meaning we do not euthanize animals due to lack of space, medical conditions, or behavioral challenges.

A Dedicated Care Model

SPARC serves as a unique partnership between public and private resources, operating a local facility in Santa Paula to provide a high standard of care. Our team works tirelessly to rehabilitate animals while partnering with the community to provide essential services like vaccinations and education on the importance of spay/neuter programs.

Finding Your Perfect Companion

We believe every animal deserves a second chance and a loving home to call their own. Our knowledgeable staff is committed to making thoughtful, successful matches, ensuring that our wonderful pets find their perfect forever families. Whether you are looking for a playful dog or a sweet cat, we strive to make the adoption experience a joyous beginning for you both.

8/13 - Despite emergency appeal to Supreme Court, Bruce the dog euthanized in California

The case involving the imminent execution of a personal pet was a highly unusual, if not unprecedented, appeal to reach the court's emergency docket.

7/14 - Should Bruce the Dog Get a Second Chance After Ventura County Euthanasia Fight?

A legal battle is unfolding over Bruce, a two-year-old German Shepherd mix who Ventura County Animal Services sought to euthanize after bite incidents involving previous owners. The rescue organization that previously owned Bruce says it was never notified about the hearing and is fighting for another chance for a dog the shelter itself described as a model citizen.

10/5 - Taxonomy: Adoptabilis sassosaurus (Order: Indiscriminata, Family: Divanidae) Preferred Habitat: Solar-radiation-drenched patches of backyard turf or, failing that, draped atop the throw pillows of your living room couch. For 160 million years, evolution perfected the mechanisms of survival. But among the diverse fauna of the late Cretaceous, few strategies were as unorthodox—or as brazen—as that of Adoptabilis sassosaurus. Unlike her territorial peers, who guarded their nesting grounds with lethal hostility, this singular female operates under a radically different evolutionary imperative: absolute, indiscriminate availability. Equipped with an advanced neurological radar for anyone holding protein or warm blankets, she abandons all tribal loyalties. To Adoptabilis, there are no strangers—only temporary custodians who have not yet surrendered their laps. Her vocalizations, a rich tapestry of dramatic huffs and high-frequency barks, echo across the watering holes, broadcasting her immediate critique of local hospitality. Yet, for all her social fluidity, a strict ecological boundary remains. She refuses to co-exist with a rival in her domain. Not from malice, but from a profound, unyielding commitment to absolute monopoly over the best cushion in the ecosystem. She is a creature of no fixed allegiance, wandering the perimeter of human habitation with one singular philosophy: why belong to a herd, when you can belong to everyone?

9/16 - 🐾BUDDY 🐾📍Santa Paula, CA Very good boy Buddy has been waiting for a forever home for over a year 😭 He came into the local shelter in August 2025 as a stray. He had a microchip, but when contacted the owner said they gave him away a few months prior and they weren’t coming for him. 🥺 He waited for months, and then contracted a terrible case of pneumonia. @santapaulaanimalrescuecenter saved him in October 2025 and nursed him to health, but he is still waiting for his forever home. Here’s what Buddy is like: 💙cuddly lovebug who soaks up affection 💙friendly with everyone (older kids best due to his strength) 💙dog neutral but prefers solo life (spoiled king please!) 💙knows basic commands (sit, shake) 💙walks nicely on leash 💙loves car rides and adventure 💙playful with balls and plushy toys 💙energetic but also a couch snuggler More than anything, Buddy is looking for someone to give all his loyalty and love to. Could it be you? Meet loving and gentle Buddy at @santapaulaanimalrescuecenter in Santa Paula, CA!
