Humane Society of the North Bay
Our Mission
The Humane Society of the North Bay is dedicated to providing shelter and compassionate care to our community’s animals in need. Our goal is to offer programs that improve their lives and strengthen the lifelong, joyful commitment between animals and people.
Our Story
Established in 1986 and formerly known as the Benicia-Vallejo Humane Society, we have spent nearly four decades finding permanent homes for thousands of homeless dogs and cats. As an independent, non-profit organization, we are proud to be a no-kill shelter, serving as a beacon of hope for animals in our community.
How We Help
We operate as a dedicated network of staff and volunteers who provide shelter for lost, abandoned, or surrendered animals. Because we are a private, non-profit agency, we rely almost entirely on the generosity of local individuals and businesses to sustain our care. Our approach includes utilizing temporary foster homes to provide extra love and socialization for animals that may not be quite ready for life in a shelter environment.
Your Role as an Adopter
Adoption is a beautiful partnership, and we are here to ensure you find the perfect match for your lifestyle. We carefully evaluate all animals based on their unique personality, temperament, and health to ensure every transition is a success. By choosing to adopt, you are giving a deserving animal a second chance at the loving, permanent home they have been waiting for.
