Los Angeles Animal Services is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of both animals and people. With a proud 153-year history, we strive every day to create a more humane Los Angeles for all.
Established in 1863, our department has grown to operate six city shelters, including our East Valley center in Van Nuys. We serve approximately 60,000 animals annually, providing medical expertise, rescue services, and a warm environment where pets can wait for their forever families.
Our shelters are home to teams of animal care technicians, veterinarians, and compassionate volunteers who ensure every dog, cat, and rabbit receives love and enrichment during their stay. We believe in transparency and community support, operating programs like our Pet Food Pantry and fostering initiatives to keep pets and families together.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to help you find the pet that is the perfect fit for your home and lifestyle. When you adopt from us, your new best friend comes microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered, ensuring a healthy start to your life together.
Ready to meet your new best friend? Visit us at one of our six locations to view our adoptable pets or explore our volunteer and foster opportunities to make a real difference. Together, we can provide the second chances our animals deserve.
