Los Angeles Animal Services is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of animals and the people who love them. We strive to create a more humane Los Angeles by connecting animals in need with the compassionate families they deserve.
Founded in 1863, our department has spent over 150 years working to improve animal welfare in our city. As one of the largest municipal shelter systems in the United States, we are honored to serve approximately 60,000 animals annually and act as a leader in progressive animal welfare initiatives.
We operate six award-winning animal shelters throughout the city, where our dedicated team of animal care technicians and veterinary professionals provide expert care and enrichment. Beyond our facility walls, we are deeply committed to keeping families together through resources like our Pet Food Pantry and innovative programs like the Citywide Cat Program and our Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team (SMART).
Life is better with a furry friend, and our goal is to help you find the perfect match for your family. When you adopt from us, your new companion comes home already vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and our team is here to support you through every step of the process.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our current list of adoptable dogs, cats, and rabbits online, or visit one of our six locations to see who is waiting to meet you. You can also make a meaningful difference by volunteering or attending one of our many upcoming community events.
