Safe Place for Pets is dedicated to serving terminally ill people by finding forever homes for their beloved pets. We provide peace of mind to our clients by ensuring their animal companions are loved, cared for, and transitioned into a new, permanent family.
Founded in 1995 by a hospice nurse who recognized a deep community need, we have spent nearly 30 years supporting pet owners in El Paso and Teller counties. We are proud to have helped over 1,300 pets find their perfect second chapters since becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1996.
We believe every pet deserves a safe, healthy environment while waiting for their forever home. While many of our cats are comfortably housed at our Cattery, our dogs thrive in a nurturing network of volunteer foster homes. Every pet in our care receives a thorough veterinary examination, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and any necessary wellness or dental care to ensure they are ready for their new life.
Adoption is a special partnership, and we are committed to making the right match for both you and your new pet. Our thoughtful, thorough pre-adopt process helps ensure that every family feels confident and prepared for their new arrival. Because we view ourselves as a lifelong support system, we remain here to offer guidance and ensure that our pets—and their adopters—are set up for long-term success.
