Annie’s Orphans is a true no-kill shelter located in Durango, Colorado, dedicated to providing a safe haven for abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs. Our mission is to ensure every pup in our care receives a warm, secure environment until their perfect forever home is found.
Founded in 1986 by Anna and Bill Anderson, our organization evolved from a small rescue mission into the large-scale shelter we are today. For over 35 years, we have remained committed to this vital work, driven by a deep love for our canine friends and the belief that every dog deserves a life of safety and kindness.
We operate solely through the generosity of our community, as we do not receive government subsidies. While we house dogs of all types and sizes at our facility, our unique sanctuary component provides a permanent home for animals who may be too traumatized or sick to be adopted. We work tirelessly to rehabilitate these dogs, giving them every opportunity to thrive through care and training.
Bringing a new dog into your life is a joyful, life-changing decision, and we take our matching process very seriously. We want to ensure that each adoption is a long-term, happy success, which is why we guide you through a thoughtful application, meet-and-greet, and home assessment process. Whether you are looking to adopt or want to try our Foster to Adopt program, we are here to support you in finding your new best friend.
We invite you to visit our Meet The Dogs page to see our wonderful residents currently waiting for their families. If you are ready to make a difference, please reach out to us via email or text to schedule a visit or explore our volunteer and donation opportunities. We look forward to meeting you and helping you find your next family member!
