Colorado Animal Rescue
Our Mission
At Colorado Animal Rescue (C.A.R.E.), we are dedicated to practicing excellence in animal care, education, and advocacy to connect pets to their people. We believe that every animal deserves a loving home and a community united by the responsible care of healthy, happy, and thriving pets.
Our Story and Community
Incorporated in 1992 by local veterinarians, C.A.R.E. began as a rescue working from the homes of dedicated volunteers. In 2000, thanks to the vision of co-founders Cindy Crandell and Jim Calaway, we opened our dedicated facility in Glenwood Springs on land generously donated by Colorado Mountain College. For over 25 years, we have served as a vital resource for Garfield County and the Roaring Fork Valley, providing care for over 23,000 animals.
How We Care
Our shelter operates under the principles of the Five Freedoms and the tenets of Socially Conscious Sheltering. We are more than just an intake facility; we function as a comprehensive community resource center offering support services like pet food assistance, behavior resources, and community veterinary care. Our professional staff and volunteers are committed to ensuring every animal in our care receives the medical attention, comfort, and affection they deserve.
Your Partner in Adoption
We believe in making matches for life, ensuring every adoption is a perfect fit for you, your home, and your unique lifestyle. Our team conducts medical and behavior assessments for every pet, allowing us to provide you with the most accurate information to set you and your new companion up for success. We are here to guide you through the process, helping you find a forever friend that completes your family.
