Our Mission

Foothills Animal Shelter is dedicated to making life better for pets and people by providing support, strengthening the human-pet bond, and offering compassionate care for every animal we serve. Together with our community, we are creating brighter futures and lasting connections.

Who We Are

As the only full-service, open-admission animal shelter in Jefferson County, Colorado, we take pride in being a socially conscious organization. We operate with a deep commitment to transparency, innovation, and respect, ensuring that we thoughtfully address the medical and behavioral needs of every pet in our care.

By continuously evolving our practices and embracing new ideas, we ensure that every healthy and safe animal is provided the best possible opportunity to find a loving home.

10/30 - As Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month comes to a close, we’d like to introduce you to a shelter pup who is a little unique and seeking the right family for her. As you can see, teenaged Billie has a bit of a wobble. We’ll likely never know exactly what caused the hitch in Billie’s giddyup, but the unusual spring to her step doesn’t dampen her playful curiosity! Billie grew up with another dog and visiting the dog park, and other than being a bit of a grouch about sharing her toys and snacks, she seems to generally enjoy the company of other dogs. Because of her clumsy way of walking, stairs are very challenging for Billie to navigate safely, so as we think about Billie’s ideal family, a multi-story home or a third-floor apartment without an elevator may not be ideal. A ramp up to tall furniture may make it easier for Billie to snuggle with you without the risk of a misjudged jump, and slippery floors might need a runner to keep Billie adhered and upright. We’re quite sure a few minor environmental alterations will be well worth the effort, though. This girl’s a dream!
